Diagnosing and treating chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) has proven to be a frustrating endeavor, despite the rapid increases of opioid prescription in the last 15 years. Based on the newly updated ACOEM evidence-based guideline for opioids and CNCP, this session will review
the definition and diagnosis of CNCP, the benefits and harms of opioids for CNCP, and best practices for opioids use for CNCP that protect patient and public safety and ensure effective treatment of CNCP. The session format will use lectures, interactive discussion, and small group clinical problem solving exercises to learn and improve
clinical management of CNCP. Attendees should bring their laptops to navigate the new website under the watchful eye of those who created and use it.
