This session reviews the basics of providing an independent medical examination (IME). It has been stated that the performance of an IME is both an exercise in consistency and scientific rigor while at the same
time an art form. The speaker, who has performed IMEs for 19 years for workers’ compensation, personal injury, long-term disability, and other medical and disability systems will review the current best practices. Tips regarding scheduling, billing, how to handle records and how to handle problem examinees will be shared. Real-life experiences will be discussed. The speaker has been involved in IME physician education for 15 years.
