Program Track: Treatment of Inflammatory Periodontal Diseases 

The current state of evidence regarding the etiologic role of dental biofilms in periodontal disease, and mechanisms of periodontal tissue destruction, will be presented. The evidence for effectiveness of systemic and local antimicrobials to treat periodontal disease will also be discussed, with current concepts and future directions emphasized. 

Educational Objectives: 
• Understand the current state of information regarding the role of dental biofilms in the etiology of periodontal disease. 
• Discuss the role of systemic antimicrobials in periodontal therapy and SBE prophylaxis. 
• Learn the current state of information relative to the use of local antimicrobial agents in management of periodontal disease.
