The practice of orthodontics continues to change significantly with increased use of temporary anchorage devices (TADs). This session covers the historical background of implants used as temporary orthodontic anchors. A review of the presenter’s scientific basis and 
various implant systems available to clinicians will be covered. The clinical component of the lecture will focus on how practitioners can better understand the indications and limitations faced when using these types of implants. 

Educational Objectives: 
• Review published research and different types of available TADs, including strengths and weaknesses. 
• Understand bio-mechanical implication of implant anchorage orientation and placement. 
• Learn surgical placement and orthodontic use of TADs, case selection and problem management.
