Historical classifications have attempted to define a relationship between
endodontics and periodontics. In doing so, concepts have often been vague,
and did not consider the interaction of inflammatory processes within and
between the tissues in question. Clarification of these concepts will enable
better treatment-planning decisions for both disciplines.
