Investigations in the science of periodontology inform the next generation of clinical decisions and laboratory exploration. Promising findings in research explorations in turn help inspire innovations for clinical applications. This course will highlight some of the recent award-winning investigations, providing a sneak peek into future directions for discovery and development.
Educational Objectives:
• Examine the potential role of titanium bio-corrosion in the etiopathogenesis and treatment of peri-implant diseases.
• Discover a novel three-dimensional gingival tissue engineering approach and its application to studying the soft tissue seal around dental implants.
• Discuss the profiles of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators and their receptors and recognize their potential role in periodontal inflammation.
• Evaluate the current knowledge regarding viral-bacterial interactions in periodontal disease development and identify how the host employs innate immunity to fight off pathogens and to modulate inflammation.
