21AAP-GS5: The Arch Nemesis: Solutions for the Edentulous and Compromised Maxillary Anterior Region

Speakers: Kenneth A. Malament, Craig Misch, Ion Zabalegui

Anterior maxillary ridge deficiencies are some of the most significant clinical challenges in oral rehabilitation. Esthetic and functional considerations play a determining role, influencing approach to treatment and prognosis. There are numerous techniques and materials that may be used to surgically reconstruct the anterior maxilla. However, efforts to surgically recreate a natural appearance can be challenging, increase morbidity, treatment length, and costs. This course will discuss options for correcting esthetic and functional needs in compromised maxillary anterior cases. Surgical, regenerative, and prosthetic options to address tissue loss will be presented and discussed.

Educational Objectives:
• Recognize and appreciate the biological limitations related to maxillary anterior ridge defects.
• Identify explicit methods of treatment planning and coordination between team members.
• Discuss surgical approaches to prepare the anterior maxilla for the prosthetic solution to defect management.
• Select and design prostheses for complex treatment scenarios.
