When treating comprehensive periodontal-restorative cases, the periodontist
has an obligation to their restorative dentist to produce sound tooth structure
for 360 degrees when undertaking crown lengthening procedures, as well as
biologic shaping of the tooth. The periodontist also has the responsibility to
understand and apply the principles of facial aesthetic design to diagnose
and properly treat concerns of excessive gingival display, gingival marginal
discrepancies and achieving ideal gingival margins around teeth and implants.
