Immediate Loading of the Patient with a Failing Dentition: A Team Approach (Keys to Success)

The patient with a failing dentition as a result of advanced periodontal disease and/or extensive decay must deal with a life changing dilemma. How will they cope with the next phase of treatment? Since 1997, the speakers have developed and implemented a predictable and simplified protocol to transition these patients utilizing an immediate placement/immediate loading technique.

This lecture will focus on the rationale behind how these complex cases are treatment planned and subsequently implemented; 4 vs 6 implants, screw vs. cement, guided vs. non-guided, hybrid vs. crown and bridge The role of each member of the team (periodontist, restorative dentist and laboratory technician) will be addressed as well as the importance of communication amongst the team and with the patient. Presurgical planning including CBCT interpretation, occlusal scheme and tooth position will be discussed as well as the implementation of the therapy.

The goal of treatment is to provide the patient with a seamless transition to a fixed immediate prosthesis. Therefore, complication avoidance will be addressed.
