The field of periodontal plastic surgery has witnessed major advancements over the last decades. Today, there are a great variety of techniques and biomaterials that have been developed to enhance soft tissues around teeth and dental implants. This presentation will discuss the utilization of the tunneling technique and alternative grafting materials such as allografts and xenografts for the treatment of various clinical scenarios. Similarly, the soft tissue management of post-extraction immediate implant placement as well as the mucogingival procedures performed to improve vestibular problems, keratinization, and thin gingival phenotype in the anterior aesthetic zone will be discussed.

Educational Objectives:

  • Discuss the tunnel grafting procedures, their indications and modifications for the anterior mandible.
  • Appreciate the role of the soft tissues during immediate implant placement and the importance of adequate guided implant positioning.
  • Recognize the criteria for correct implant placement and identify the proper grafting protocol for increasing keratinized tissue and tissue thickness.
