Program Track: Treatment of Periodontal Diseases and Peri-Implant Diseases
Dental lasers have been incorporated into both non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatment modalities, and it is important to understand that lasers with varying wavelengths exert different levels of tissue penetration determined by degree of absorption. Although the latest AAP consensus paper reported a modest additional benefit in probing depth reduction and clinical attachment level gain compared to conventional non-surgical treatments, a significant amount of conflicting evidence exists regarding the efficacy of laser-assisted periodontal therapy.
