Program Track: Implants; Regeneration/Tissue Engineering

Moderator: Jeanne M. Salcetti

Speakers: Veronique Benhamou, Brian L. Mealey, and Diego Velasquez

Since the late 1980s, when Christer Dahlin reported his landmark research on bone growth procedures, knowledge, techniques, and materials have evolved and made socket management treatment protocols more predictable. The use of bio-materials is now routine, however identifying the application and effectiveness of each of its uses, as well as understanding the wound healing events, can determine the best treatment outcome.

Educational Objectives:

• Review the evolution of and decision when selecting which bio-material to use for socket management procedures.

• List wound healing events following implantation of various bone replacement grafts for ridge preservation.

• Discuss methods of minimizing trauma to the bone when extracting a tooth.
