The newly revised certifying exam will include a 45-minute “discussion section” which will require the candidate to discuss basic science, clinical science, and periodontal medicine, as they relate to periodontology. A greater emphasis on utilizing supporting literature will be expected. This review will offer guidance for candidates on how to prepare for this section of the certifying exam. This course will assist in preparing for the American Board of Periodontology (ABP) examination by providing strategies for studying, utilizing key resources, and offering a plan to become a Diplomate of the ABP. This program reflects all the current Board regulations, highlighting the significant changes in the examination.
Educational Objectives:
• Identify the ongoing changes in the ABP guidelines and review the process leading to Board certification.
• Develop a workable timetable and strategy to prepare for successfully completing the ABP examination using readily available resources.
• Review selected topics with literature-based presentations with suggestions on ways to utilize the literature in the analysis and discussion of the traditional “case scenarios” presented in the oral examination.
