This complimentary program is for periodontal faculty only.

Educators will gain the opportunity to learn about the new disease classification developed during the World Workshop on Disease Classification held in 2017. Presentations will discuss the finding of the World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant diseases and conditions, specifically as they relate to academia. The session will focus on the new classification, and how that classification may be integrated into dental education, both at the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels.

Educational Objectives:

  • Introduce an innovative model for identifying and diagnosing periodontal diseases that introduces a multi-dimensional staging and grading system, similar to the method used in oncology.
  • Gain an appreciation for the complex nature of each patient and his/her individual response to treatment.
  • Explore opportunities for integrating the new classification system with postdoctoral education.
  • Identify opportunities for introducing the updated classification to predoctoral programs.
